2 DAY TRIP FROM MARRAKECH TO DESERT OF M’HAMID ELGHIZLANE
Some define the Moroccan Sahara as a place of disconnection and peace, others as an unforgettable experience, but most want to come back and relive the adventure.
You will spend 2 unforgettable days in the Sahara of M’hamid elghilane, breathtaking views await you!
Day 1: Marrakech – Ouarzazate – Draa Valley – Zagora – Mhamid
We will start the expedition early in the morning, departing from your hotel in Marrakech. We will take an unusually picturesque and highest road in Morocco, crossing the High Atlas and the Tichka pass (2260 m). We will reach Quarzazate, where we will visit the Kasbah of Taourirt.
Then we continue our trip via Agdez and draa valley. In Agdez, the nature is really amazing. The palm groves and fields of crops seem to stretch endlessly, surrounded by pretty villages and adobe kasbahs. These houses made of mud, straw and water are placed at the top of the infertile land overlooking the palm groves.
We will follow Draa valley covered with thousands of date palms, until we reach Zagora – a city where many trade routes have crossed for centuries. But before we get there, we will first cross the Tiniffift road and the Middle Atlas Mountains.
We will end the day in Mhamid, a city where civilization ends and the splendid dunes begin to appear. You can actually see relatively large dunes and enjoy a beautiful sunset while riding on camels. After camel riding and delicious dinner , you will have the opportunity to attend a traditional Berber music show while watching the stars and the crescent moon in the impressive Sahara desert.
You will then spend a night in the quiet and peaceful sahara of mhamid.
Day 2: Mhamid – Ait benhaddou – Marrakech
After breakfast while admiring the incredible view of the sunrise, we will drive back to visit the village of Tamgroute known for its koranic school, old library and potters quarter. Then we continue to visit the historic 16th century Ait-Ben-Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is the place where various famous films like ‘“Game of Thrones, Gladiator, The Mummy” …Etc. were shot.
After the visit, return for lunch in a local restaurant in ait ben hadou, and drive back to Marrakech. You will spend an unforgettable moments there!
